We are looking for an outstanding and enthusiastic student to work as part of the Tumour Immunology Group of the National Centre for Asbestos Related Diseases.

Tumour immunology research

The Centre is located in the UWA School of Medicine and Pharmacology in the new Harry Perkins Institute at The University of Western Australia.

Our group investigates therapeutic strategies aimed at reinforcing the endogenous immune response against cancer. In this project we specifically focus on using immune checkpoint blockade and cytotoxic chemotherapeutics as immune potentiating agents in mesothelioma and melanoma in mouse models.

The Tumour Immunology Group is a well–funded, close–knit team of about 30 scientists and clinicians. The group is unique in undertaking research from basic laboratory studies through to clinical trials. Our group forms a stimulating environment for PhD students, and we meet regularly for journal clubs, data presentations and functions. UWA provides courses and workshops on data presentation, publishing, entrepreneurship, innovation and many other subjects specifically aimed at PhD students.

We have strong national and international collaborative links. Our work is funded by the NHMRC and other peer–review bodies and has been recognised by several prestigious awards and invited reviews in top journals.

NCARD offers PhD scholarship top–ups of $8500 in addition to Commonwealth or University PhD scholarships.

Expressions of interest and enquiries to Dr. Willem Joost Lesterhuis or Prof. Richard A Lake.
